"BARAKAS" OF SUFIS PARAPSYCHOLOGICAL PHENOMENA Clairvoyance and Psychic Vision Example 1: Semseddin-i Tebrizi (one of the eminent personalities of the Sufi Path) was telling Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi, who loved him very much, about his childhood. Semseddin said, ''During my childhood, I used to perceive God and the angels and notice the other hidden things related to Earth, and thought that other people also saw them. However, before long, I discovered that they didn't.'' Semseddin went on to tell him that Sheikh Ebu Bekr, one of his teachers, had advised and warned him not to mention his experiences to anybody, and that his father had pointed out that the above-mentioned ability had been given to him at birth, just as Jesus had been given a similar ability while he was an infant in his cradle. Moreover, one of the Verses of the Koran states, ''We had given him wisdom while he was an infant.'' (Koran, XlX, l3.) Example 2: One day Semsi Tebrizi, while standing in the street with a few dervishes (Sufi disciples) around him, noticed a group of Muslim ladies passing by the houses in the distance. Looking at those ladies, he remarked, ''Look! I notice a brilliance among those ladies. There is the spiritual light of saintliness in one of them.'' Then the dervishes checked, and the lady emitting spiritual light turned out to be Mevlana's beloved daughter, Lady Melike. Example 3: On one of the days after his father Mevlana's death, Sultan Veled (Mevlana's son) and Hüsameddin Celebi (Mevlana's scribe) were visiting Mother Kira, Mevlana's widow. According to Sultan Veled, his mother had perceived Mevlana's presence like an angel with a couple of wings, as if he were protecting them. Example 4: Hodja Ibrahim (Abraham) was Hazrat Azizan's youngest son. Hazrat Azizan, before his death, found Hodja Ibrahim suitable and worthy of his position. Upon seeing Hazrat Azizan's choice, the people around him started to gossip secretly because they were expecting Hodja Hard, Ibrahim's elder brother, to be chosen as Hazrat Azizan's successor. Hazrat Azizan, being an eminent saint of the Nakşibendi Sufi Order, read their hearts through his psychic vision and remarked: ''Because Hodja Hard will pass to the world beyond just after me.'' Yes, this prediction really came true and Hodja Hard passed away 19 days after his father's death.
Psychokinesis (PK) Example 1: Once upon a time, Hazrat Azizan (one of the prominent personalities of the Nakşibendi Sufi Order), was invited to a feast with all the eminent religious people of the town. Only one person was absent - Seyyid Ata's son who was captured and taken away by the enemy soldiers. Naturally, Seyyid Ata and all the other guests including Hazrat Azizan were sorry because of his beloved son's absence. One of the guests named Ali intended to start eating. Upon seeing this, Hazrat Azizan with his strong psychic power and his ability to control matter said, ''Nobody can start this feast unless Seyyid Ata's beloved son enters this hall." Before Hazrat Azizan had finished his words, that hungry person's hand become hard and stiff, hanging in mid-air over the meal. Everybody was bewildered and perplexed, and had their eyes wide open. Before long, the expected child was running breathless into the hall towards the banquet table. When they asked the boy how he was able to escape from the enemy and come to the feast, he answered: ''Well, I have no idea about it. It happened all of a sudden. Everything happened within the twinkling of an eye. First I was taken to the enemy's country with my hands bound together. That was a long walk and I do not know how, but I found myself among your good selves all of a sudden." Everybody praised Hazrat Azizan due to the remarkable exhibition of his barakas.
Example 2: Seyyid Ata was the second successor of Zengi Ata (one of the prominent Sheiks of the Nakşibendi Sufi Order). One day one of the villagers from his town came into the presence of Seyyid Ata and complained about the poor soil in his field, for he had difficulty in getting a good crop out of it. After listening to the poor villager, Seyyid Ata ordered the soil verbally to become fertile. His soil became so rich that the villager had an abundant harvest the following season. Example 3 : Hazrat Semseddin (one of the prominent personalities of the Mawlavi Sufi Order) went to Aksaray, a town in Central Anatolia. After performing his usual prayers late at night in one of the mosques, he asked the 'muezzin' (one who calls the Muslims to prayer) to let him stay and sleep in the mosque that night. But the poor muezzin did not know the stranger, and hence objected to Hazrat Semseddin's staying on in the mosque. Begging the muezzin several times evoked no positive response from him. Getting a little angry, Hazrat Semseddin shouted, ''May your tongue get swollen'', and thereafter he left the mosque for Konya, one of the biggest cities in Central Anatolia. When the ''Imam'' (the prayer leader) of that mosque came some time later he found the poor muezzin in the throes of death, unable to speak because of his badly swollen tongue. The poor muezzin, by using body language, begged the bewildered imam to find the travelling dervish who had put him into that mortal condition. The imam set off immediately to find Semseddin, caught up with him somewhere in a place called ''Kulkul'' Waters, and cast himself at his feet. He begged Semseddin to forgive the muezzin and heal his swollen tongue. Semseddin said that it was too late for him to help the muezzin, but promised to pray for him to continue his way through Heaven safely and wished him good luck for his life after death. The imam said good-bye to Hazrat Semseddin and left for the muezzin, still hoping to help him. However, when he came to the mosque, he found the muezzin dead. Example 4: Sems-i Tebrizi, while passing by a palace in Baghdad, heard some music coming through its wide open door. Intending to enjoy that peaceful music, he entered the palace. Upon seeing a foreigner in the palace, the master was very angry and ordered his guards to kill Sems-i Tebrizi. One of the guards attacked him with his sword but his hand became paralyzed. Another , trying the same action, was rendered motionless with his hand holding the sword in mid-air. Then Sems-i Tebrizi left that palace and set off on his way home. Nobody was able to catch up with him. The next day the master of the palace was found dead.
Teleportation Example 1 : Sıraceddin-i Tatar (one of the prominent Sufis in the Mawlawi Sufi Order) relates: ''One day, Semseddin-i Tebrizi was sitting with a group of people in a corner making an informative speech that enlightened them about their future. It was a severe winter. One of the group members anyhow wished to have a rose. Upon hearing his wish, Semseddin stood up and went out. When he came into the room again, he put a bunch of roses in front of the aforementioned man. Upon seeing this, everybody in the group was bewildered and expressed their admiration for Semseddin in different ways. To explain the situation, Semseddin explained that this was not a miracle that had been realized to fulfill the wishes of the people there in that group. Furthermore, the roses were a present sent by God from the world beyond. Spiritual Healing Example 2 : While Semseddin-i Tebrizi was in Erzurum (one of the biggest cities in Eastern Anatolia), he met a 'melik' (Lord) with a very good-looking but foolish and absent-minded son. All the instructors in the city remained unsuccessful in training him due to his foolishness, so much so that they were not able to teach him even a page of the Koran in a year. At last the melik made up his mind to appeal to Hazrat Semseddin, and explained the problem of his beloved son. Hazrat Semseddin responded that he was hopeful of teaching the son and making him 'hafız' (one who knows the whole Koran by heart) in a month. So the father left his son in the hands of Semseddin. Soon after , the boy started memorizing a section (of the Koran) every day, and memorized the whole Koran within a month. Besides this, he learned how to write and speak clearly and properly too. After this incident, the melik, along with all his family and relatives, became Semseddin's faithful devotees.
Clairaudience: Example 1 : Shaykh Abdullah Hocendi(one of the emninent personalities of the Nakşibend Sufi Order ) relates: "While I was visiting the grave of one of my respected relatives,I heard a voice echoing in my mind, saying,"Go back.Your wish will come true in Bukhara after 12 years."After some time, while I was passing through the marketplace,I noticed two Turks chatting and crying at the same time in a quiet place on the the road.I overheard their conversation for some time and then asked permission to join them.At the same time I offered them some fresh fruit. So they welcomed me and even decided to introduce me to Ishak Hodja who was also one of the leaders of the Sufi discipline at that time.Ishak Hodja welcomed me warmly and I didn2t hesitate to serve him willingly for some time.At last he remarked,"Your lot in life is not related with mine and I am unable to control and guide you." Then I remembered the voice that had echoed in my mind while I was visiting my relative's grave some years ago.« Previous Next »
